Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions I frequently receive.

Q: What is acupuncture?

A: Acupuncture is the application of thin needles into points on the energetic pathways of the body, known as meridians or channels. These points have correspondences to organ systems in the body and have been utilized for thousands of years to treat illness and restore balance.

Q: Is acupuncture painful?

A: Different people have different levels of sensitivity when it comes to acupuncture, but I do my best to apply needles as gently as possible. Please let me know prior to your first treatment if you are sensitive to needles or anxious about receiving acupuncture, and we will work together to determine the most beneficial treatment options for you.

Q: Can you treat me without using needles?

A: Absolutely! Chinese medicine includes a variety of treatment modalities besides acupuncture, including fire cupping, Gua Sha and moxibustion. Please let me know prior to your first treatment if you are sensitive to needles or anxious about receiving acupuncture, and we will work together to determine the most beneficial treatment options for you.

Q: Do you take health insurance?

A: I do not accept health insurance for payment, but I am happy to provide you with an itemized invoice or superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Q: Is Chinese herbal medicine safe?

A: While herbal remedies are largely considered safe, it is always essential that you list all pharmaceuticals and / or supplements you are taking on your initial intake, and make me aware of any changes to your medications or supplements while under my care.

Q: Is an herbal formula included with my treatment?

A: During the intake prior to your acupuncture treatment, we may determine that an herbal formula would be beneficial for you. While the consultation is included with your acupuncture treatment, the formula that I prescribe or prepare for you will be an additional cost.
